How to Get Your Deposit Back – Your Student Check-Out Guide

You’ve lived, studied, and hopefully had the time of your life. Now it’s time to move out and – fingers crossed – get your full deposit back. At Mistoria House Share, we want to help you make that happen. Here’s what to check before you hand back the keys.

Start with a deep clean. That means scrubbing the oven, clearing out the fridge, and vacuuming behind furniture. Make the place look as good as it did when you moved in. Don’t forget bins, baseboards, and especially bathrooms – these are key inspection areas!

Next, go through your inventory. Was there a chair missing when you arrived? Is a lamp damaged? Flag any discrepancies early to avoid surprises later.

If anything broke during your tenancy, let us know. Honest communication goes a long way and might save you deductions. We encourage tenants to be transparent and cooperative – it’s a smoother process for everyone.

Don’t forget:

  • Remove ALL rubbish and personal items
  • Return every key (including window and post box keys!)
  • Provide a forwarding address for deposit return

At Mistoria House Share, we protect your deposit through the DPS (Deposit Protection Scheme). We want to return it – but it’s up to you to leave the place in great condition. If your tenancy agreement was for a joint property, remember: deductions affect everyone.

Pro Tip: Start prepping at least one week before your tenancy ends to avoid last-minute stress!
